Alto Canavese: Between Mountains and Ingenuity

A Territory of Contrasts and Harmonies

This is the definition we natives give of the piedmont and mountain area that stretches between the Orco Valley and the Lanzo Valley, i.e., the part of the Alpine arc, in Canavese land, located further west.

Small towns, set on sunny slopes and in shallow valleys, where it is not only nature that has characterized the landscape: here man has put his own spin on it, in modern times! It is useless to deny the evidence: it would be like forgetting our industrial vocation and the fact that much of our social fabric is based on work in mechanical companies. And that is why, along the roads leading to the mountains, you also find views that are really “not very bucolic”!

THE “LITTLE RUHR”

The Industrial Soul of Alto Canavese.

You are in what was known as the “little Ruhr” of Italy and is now not only a stamped steel hub but also a hub of mechanical processing applied to a variety of industries (automotive, rail, space, etc.).

Here people went to the factories and it was normal to “take home” other work, which is why in the garages, very often, instead of cars, there were lathes, milling machines and drills: everything needed to do the machining of the blanks molded by the hammers. The factories were in mountainous areas and there they remained until the demands of logistics forced them to locate further downstream.
