We like to describe the Canavese as a living jigsaw puzzle. Neatly cultivated fields alternate with small industries. Chestnut forests embrace peaceful villages nestled in the hills or mountains. Vineyards grow on sunny slopes near lakes. Urban centers and natural reserves coexist along rivers and streams.

To help you explore it, we divided the area into 7 macro-zones. Each one reflects the unique geography of the territory, making it easy to recognize and explore.

It is not easy to describe this valley to you because … because it is surprising, unexpected, mysterious.

Even we Canaveseans, for quite some time, have considered it somewhat marginal and so “closed”: perhaps it is no coincidence that the stream that runs through it is called Chiusella! Here you have to plan to go, you don’t pass there by chance; whether you decide to go up from Baldissero or from Strambinello, you immediately understand “the air that pulls”: so much nature, so much green, so much water, so much rock, so much biodiversity. Valle Orco

The quintessential alpine valley of our Canavese, the one that, if followed all the way to its end and peak, would lead you into the Valsavarenche in the Aosta Valley — via one of the most extraordinary and scenic roads in the entire Italian Alps: the route to the Nivolet Pass, at 2,700 meters.
We are in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park, on the Piedmont side, and the use of “would” is intentional: although the road climbs all the way up, it does not continue down into the Aosta Valley. This allows the natural habitat of Italy’s oldest national park to remain beautifully preserved!
