An experiential trek among vineyards, cliffs, medieval churches and villages on a landscape of great beauty in all seasons of the year.

The day will include stops by small local entrepreneurs where we will taste cheeses, sample wines, learn about the alpine fragrance of highland “oil” under the pergolas of the terraces, and have breakfast in a beautiful hostel made out of an old workshop. But most of all we will learn about the stories of these entrepreneurs who with patience and determination over the centuries have wrested the land from the glacier and worked it to the best of their ability. We will have lunch “a fagotto” with a selection of traditional Canavese dishes cooked by an excellent trattoria.

In Borgofranco di Ivrea we will enter a “Balmetto” (typical local wine cellar), opened exclusively for us where we will have the fascinating experience of touching the “ora”: the icy breath of air that comes from the bowels of the mountain (Mombarone) and blows steadily every second of every day since prehistoric times, keeping the internal temperatures on 8 degrees. It is a very rare phenomenon that attracts increasing numbers of visitors every year, and is only visible in this part of the world. We end with an excellent “merenda sinoira “, tasting a selection of local wines.
